Our approach

Evidence based, individual and full of heart

Applied Behaviour Analysis is at the centre of everything we do, delivered by a multidisciplinary team that works hand in hand with your family and your child's school.

Evidence based practice

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is a science derived from the principles of behaviour, systematically applied to improve socially significant behaviour.

What is ABA?

A science of learning, applied with care

Through careful observation and by identifying what helps a behaviour improve, ABA uses a wide range of teaching methods to maintain helpful behaviours, teach new skills and reduce behaviours that get in the way of learning.

Its use with children with autism and other developmental conditions has been proven to make meaningful, socially significant change and to improve life for children and their parents and caregivers. ABA does this by collecting data on observable, measurable behaviours and using that data to check that every intervention is truly working.

At FOS ABA Centre, every part of our service is based on ABA. Our approach is designed uniquely for each child. From one on one sessions to group work and real life situations, therapy is highly personalised to your child's needs.

What makes it work

The building blocks of every FOS programme

  • Specific learning objectives

Clear, measurable goals for every skill, so progress is never a guess.

  • Active learning

Children learn by doing, with plenty of practice and positive reinforcement.

  • Data and progress driven

Every session is recorded and reviewed, so we can adjust quickly and keep moving forward.

  • Highly individualised

Programmes are built around your child's strengths, interests and needs.

  • Intensive for results

Focused, regular sessions give children the time and attention they need to master new skills.

  • All inclusive curriculum

Communication, play, self help, academic and social skills, all in one joined up plan.

How does ABA help children with autism?

Decades of research, real life skills

ABA therapy was first developed in the 1960s and has been researched and validated ever since in ongoing peer reviewed studies. Decades of research show that ABA is highly effective in building life skills, particularly when it starts early.

We assess each learner's current skills, barriers to learning and instructional needs using assessment tools based on B. F. Skinner's analysis of Verbal Behaviour. This tells us exactly where to begin and what to teach next.

ABA can also help older learners and adults with autism, although research in that group is less extensive. Our focus is on children from infancy to eight years old, when early intervention makes the biggest difference.

One team

A multidisciplinary team around your child

Children do not grow in separate boxes, so our therapists do not work in separate boxes either.

Working together

Families and schools are part of the team

  1. We listen first

You know your child best. Your observations shape every goal we set.

  2. We share everything

Daily reports, quarterly progress summaries and open sessions you can observe.

  3. We train parents

Parent training helps you use simple ABA techniques at home, so learning carries on every day.

  4. We connect with school

With your permission, we work with teachers so skills transfer into the classroom.
